Lone tree across the valley

Favorites from 2025

When I explore the island with a camera I search for small scenes first. Tropical environments can be crowded, overgrown, and chaotic. The landscape encourages photographers to stand still and look closely.

This year’s gallery is the result of that slow, careful examination, noticing light, color, contrast, shape, pattern, and texture. The images were taken to help me remember my experience from the day. They capture my personal perspective and allow me to share the beauty of Guam, which has been my island home for more than ten years now.

I walked along beaches, hiked in the hills, and crossed valleys again this year looking for inspiration. Some of my favorite moments were spent carefully stepping across rocks in a river or holding my hat to keep it from blowing into the Pacific. These pictures bring back those memories.

My wife and I usually share these moments together, but I had a few more solo adventures in 2025 too. I can linger just a little longer on my own, enduring the humidity, the mosquitoes, and the waiting for light next to a tripod. I hope to take more trips of both kinds in 2026. And I wish you all the best for your own adventures in the new year!
