There are more images in my “Keepers” folder this year. These are photographs I’m happy to use on the web or in print. The fact we avoided a major typhoon has a lot to do with it. Mawar recovery in 2023 filled my schedule with everything but time for photography.
We had both of our vehicles operational in 2024. Unlike most of the previous year, I was able to travel to many of my favorite locations, plus a few new ones.
I focused on one primary photo project during my vacation this summer, but also captured images on family hikes. And I started a second project in November, which is likely to be completed sometime in 2025.
Unusually, I had more than a dozen photos I wanted to share, but decided to hold a few back for the sake of variety. The others were all taken in the mahogany forest of Piti, where I spent a lot of time in 2024.
Recently, I received the contact information for someone who conducted research in this mahogany grove in 2018. I hope he can provide me with enough additional information to complete the book I began this summer.
I may spend the next few months doing more portfolio organization than new photography. There are several collections I have never shared. Those deserve to be published in some way in 2025.
The typhoon series I mentioned in my 2023 post is still sitting in Shotwell; lonely, unedited, and unpublished. There are probably too many photos for an online gallery, and most will require explanation, so I am considering a photo book for those as well.
