Reviewing old favorites
I returned several days in a row to photograph this juvenile Yellow bittern fallen from the nest. This was my favorite image from the October 2021 session.
2023 honorable mentions
I usually publish a “best of the year” post in December. Not all of my favorites can be included. This bittern is the first of my 2023 honorable mentions.
Climbing to safety
This Yellow bittern, apparently not yet able to fly, was trying to scramble up the museum fence to the top of a tree. I saw three others in the same area.
Injured Yellow bittern
This juvenile Yellow bittern had apparently fallen from the nest. He limped around in front of my telephoto lens a while before finding a place to hide.
