Nature observation at home

Island Rainbow Skink

Near the end of 2025 I started posting daily observations on iNaturalist. These are research images taken to catalog plant and animal life within a given area. The area where I observe is just steps from our condo in a small patch of bushes and trees.

There are only a few minutes of light available for photography before I leave for the studio and after I arrive back every day. This makes finding something new especially difficult. With that being said, I have only missed three days, which I spent with my family at an Airbnb in Agat.

So far I have eighteen “research grade” observations. These are photos suitable for use in scientific research. To capture the details needed for this type of image I am using the built-in flash on my old Sony A77V. My Minolta 100mm macro lens captures vibrant and super-sharp closeups.

My goal is to document as many species as possible in this tiny area in 2026. This project provides me an opportunity to shoot every day without leaving home. This is important because my days tend to be very busy. I hope to share more images here, but for now you can follow my iNaturalist profile.
