When I don’t feel like writing, I start writing. When I’m not happy with what I’ve written, I keep writing. When I can’t find a conclusion, I write until I have.
Nothing can stop a writer. As long as our fingers can touch the keys or our pens can find the paper, we can write.
We often feel our writing isn’t good enough. We lack creative ideas. The words don’t flow at the same pace every writing session. But that doesn’t mean we can’t write.
Today’s commentary was supposed to be much longer, on a totally different topic, a topic I have been researching for years. At the moment, it sits unfinished in my Joplin notes app – only a draft.
This is not a problem. Eventually, I will finish that draft. I just need to keep writing.
Perseverance and consistency may be among the most important attributes for people who produce creative work. We’ll be unhappy or unsatisfied with some of it more often than we’d like; that’s why we need to keep going.
Dedication beats talent. Character beats inspiration. Light bulb moments are overrated. Hard work is the coin of the creative realm. And everyone who makes something remarkable has a pouch full.
